Summary:


The Athletics Department at Rollins College is seeking Sports Psychologist a to join their team! Under the supervision of the Associate Vice President of Athletics, the Sports Psychologist will provide a full range of culturally sensitive clinical and non-clinical services for Division II student-athletes at Rollins College.

This full-time, 12-month position will include assessment/evaluation, short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and psycho-educational workshops to increase the mental health awareness of student athletes. In addition to direct clinical services, the sports psychologist will provide applied sports psychology services related to enhancing athletic performance. This will involve collaboration and consultation with coaches, athletic training staff, sports medicine staff and athletic administrators. The successful candidate is involved with the Athletics Department culture by supporting student athletes and coaches through practices, games and events. Emphasis will be on ameliorating mental health conditions and related issues typically experienced by student-athletes engaged in competitive intercollegiate sports at the NCAA Division II level.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Administrative
    • Serve as an active member of the Athletics Health Care Providers Team
    • Provide leadership to ensure the implementation of clinical counseling services which adhere to the highest professional standards and best practices for college counseling services in student athletics.
    • Ensure clinical practice is in accordance with Florida Health Laws. Uphold standards and ethical guidelines of the counseling profession.
    • Monitor best practices at other institutions and integrate best practices as appropriate.
    • Plan and prepare operational reports and analysis that identify student athlete trends and recommend appropriate programs and solutions through on-going quality improvement practices.
    • Maintain ongoing professional development to be informed and up to date on all regulations around mental health laws, NCAA rules and regulations, federal guidelines and legal interpretations.
    • Participate in NCAA Apple Training Program.
  • Clinical
    • Provide short-term individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, case management, and performance enhancement to student-athletes.
    • Build relationships and provide direct clinical services to student athletes. Provide referrals to appropriate campus and community resources as needed.
    • Establish and maintain referral relationships with campus and community providers (including the Wellness Center) to support continuity of care when needs exceed the scope of athletics-based services.
    • Adhere to appropriate ethical and professional standards; keep accurate records of appointments, intake notes, progress notes and termination summaries in individual files; maintain confidentiality of records; consult with other professionals as needed to coordinate treatment; and consult with parents and others with appropriate authorization.
    • Maintains clear boundaries regarding confidentiality and information sharing, particularly in interactions with coaches and athletic staff.
    • Maintains clinical documentation in accordance with applicable laws, ethical standards, and departmental protocols.
    • Responds to urgent and emergent situations in alignment with institutional emergency protocols and coordinates with appropriate campus partners as needed.
    • Coordinate and consult with outside referral resources for continuation of care of clients.
    • Services are short-term and scope-limited; student-athletes requiring ongoing or specialized care will be referred to appropriate providers.
  • Collaboration
    • Act as a liaison by providing consultations when needed between student-athletes and coaches/sports medicine staff, Faculty Athletic Representative, professors, and student affairs staff.
    • Engage in connections and collaborations with leaders from the Wellness Center, including the Director of Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS), Director of Student Health Services and the Director of Health Promotions, to support a multi-disciplinary approach to services and programs across a continuum of care.
  • Consultation/Outreach
    • Provide team consultation, assistance, and educational opportunities, as needed, including meeting with coaches to assess the team's well-being and performance needs, and educating student-athletes about psychological skills that can enhance well-being and performance.
    • Consultation with the sports medicine staff and athletic administrators and as needed, on individual cases and team issues on issues relevant to the psychological well-being of student-athletes.
    • Work in collaboration with athletics senior leadership team, and in consultation with Wellness Center substance misuse prevention counselor, to schedule annual drug and alcohol programming.
    • Develop, coordinate, and deliver education programs for students and student-athletes related to mental health, identity, mindfulness, adjustment, and academic concerns.

Minimum Qualifications & Education:
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program.
  • Possess a valid driver's license, or ability to obtain an Florida driver's license within 30 days of accepting the job, and acceptable MVR are required.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Licensed as a psychologist in Florida (Licensure realistically expected within one year of hire will be considered however, a clearly defined supervision plan must be in place prior to the start of clinical delivery).
  • CMPC - Certified as a Mental Performance Consultant through the Associate of Applied Sport Psychology or actively working toward certification.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NCAA rules and guidelines.
  • Experience working with students with diverse and intersecting identities and backgrounds.

Work Environment:

  • Campus-based, front-facing position.
  • Ability and willingness to work flexible hours associated with intercollegiate athletics, including evenings and weekends during the sports season.
  • This position is designated as one that performs an essential function. This means that the position's incumbent may be required to report to work if the campus suspends operations because of severe weather, natural disaster, or other emergency condition.
