Job Summary
The Assistant Director for Instructional Design, Engagement and Assistance (IDEA), under the supervision of the Director of Instructional Design, will support the development of innovative online courses and programs, provide personalized technical and pedagogical faculty support, manage faculty and student feedback collection and reporting, and supervise the Instructional Technology Coordinator and the Instructional Technology Specialist. They play an active role in decisions related technology within the online courses, ensuring that experiences meet the specifications of the degree program and adhere to institutional expectations for rigor, quality, and scalability.
The Assistant Director will specialize in the following two areas: managing online course technologies and faculty development. This position will be expected to do a significant amount of work within the Learning Management System (LMS) in the AU Online (AUO) courses to provide the support needed for delivery. The Assistant Director will have no responsibility for the oversight and functioning of the LMS.
Responsibilities
The duties include, but are not limited to:
PROVIDE PREMIUM SUPPORT FOR INSTRUCTORS:
Consult with faculty in creative and effective best practices in online teaching
Communicate with faculty based on a set schedule for temporal support with encouragement to act
Address faculty requests for assistance in a timely manner
Collect instructor feedback on courses to share with the Director
Recommend changes and adjustments to courses based on faculty requests for assistance via Mojo Helpdesk
Maintain log of changes requested by faculty that are made to course sections and primary shells
Employ a coaching stance for teaching observations and support
PRODUCE AND MANAGE FACULTY DEVELOPMENT RESOURCES AND OPP:
Conduct needs assessments to determine faculty development needs
Lead the development and implementation of faculty development opportunities (both pedagogical and technical) offered in a variety of modalities (e.g., online resources, just- in-time learning modules, facilitate professional learning communities, and host synchronous sessions The focus is on assisting faculty members in teaching AU Online courses
Collaborate with IDEA team members and university faculty to develop instructor development resources
Generate detailed reports of faculty engagement within the Community for Learning and Teaching for the Director
Manage the faculty recognition program
Implement faculty communication plan
MANAGE FACULTY AND STUDENT FEEDBACK COLLECTION AND REPORTING:
Manage opportunities for faculty and students to provide feedback on courses and their AUO experience in totality
Report data to the Director on a regular basis
Make informed recommendations to the whole IDEA Team for changes and adjustments to courses based on faculty and student feedback
Serve as the voice of faculty in discussions within the IDEA Team
SUPERVISE THE INST. TECH. COORD. AND THE INST. TECH. SPEC.:
Serve as the Approver within OneUSG for time off and other matters. Discuss with the Director as needed
Provide support and coaching on time management and task prioritization
Establish a collaborative relationship with those in the two roles
Update the Director weekly on projects, workload, performance
Ensure all work plans, logs, etc. are accessible to the Director 24/7
Mentor the two teams in their job roles and professional growth
ONGOING PROFESSIONAL GROWTH:
Update and improve one's own knowledge, skills and attitudes pertaining to faculty development, course data collection and usage for improved teaching and design, and leadership
Present or publish scholarship related to educational technology, instructional design, higher education, and teaching and learning
OTHER: Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited college or university in instructional design, educational technology or a related field along with working in higher education supporting faculty and online education for five or more years, including teaching in higher education for three or four years.

Preferred Experience
Teaching experience in higher education for five or more years. Successful online and/or hybrid teaching experience in higher education
Demonstrated success working with faculty members or other instructional staff to improve teaching and learning and in their use of learning management systems
Experience using learning management systems, visual presentation software, online collaboration tools, and web authoring tools to create online learning environments
Experience developing and facilitating professional development opportunities to faculty members
Developing and facilitating professional development opportunities to faculty members
Managing direct reports
Collecting student and faculty data to inform continuous improvement

Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)
Salary to be commensurate with the qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum midpoint) of the position.
