Job Summary:
The College of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (CSTEM) at Eastern Washington University is currently seeking skilled and team-oriented applicants for a Program Specialist 2 to support our Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (MESA) Center.
MESA Program Specialist 2
- The MESA Program Specialist 2 reports to the CSTEM Assistant Dean and MESA Program Director.
- This position will provide information and technical assistance to program participants, staff and outside entities regarding MESA program content, policies and activities and recommends alternative courses of action; promotes the program with outside organizations and resources;
- Attends meetings and/or conferences as the MESA program representative; develops and makes public presentations on program related topics;
- Confers regularly with staff and outside entities regarding the interpretation and implementation of MESA program policies; participates in establishing program standards and identifying areas for program development;
- Recruits, screens and places MESA students, program volunteers, and resources;
- Monitors MESA program activities in relation to established program goals; within established program parameters, determines variances from program standards;
- Prepares training and promotional materials, provides training and certification to program participants;
- Analyzes MESA program participants operations and performance to program policies, procedures, practices and conformance with rules and regulations; provides assistance, counseling and/or instruction as needed;
- Directs the work of others and/or coordinates services of program volunteers;
- May supervise student employees.
- May transport students to conferences and other MESA related activities.

The salary for this position is $45,912 up to $52,896. Where the hired candidate will begin within this range is dependent on education, experience, and skills. - Bachelors degree or:
- An Associates degree in Applied Science with a minimum of 3 years of experience with MESA or similar student support program will substitute for a Bachelors degree, or:
- Minimum of 7 years of experience with MESA or similar student support program will substitute for a Bachelors degree,
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to manage several projects at one time
- Valid Washington State Drivers License, record of clean driving history and ability to transport students.
- Ability to work independently and confidentially
- Demonstrated ability to apply a responsive and flexible approach that is supportive to the needs, including universal access, of our students, faculty, administrators, and the public.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with EWU general education and other graduation requirements.
- Familiarity with STEM programs and coursework.
- Experience with student support services.
- Experience working in higher education in a related position.

Job Duties: Coordination and Outreach- Coordinate and communicate the MESA philosophy and benefits of program participation to administrators, faculty, staff, and students at EWU, as well as MESA partner community colleges and K-12 schools.
- Work with advisors and admissions to develop, coordinate and implement outreach, recruitment, and retention efforts for prospective and current program participants.
- Work with the CSTEM Assistant Dean and MESA Director to plan academic program curriculum for the EWU MESA Center, align MESA Center activities to support program needs.
- Collaborate with MESA faculty to support MESA students in succeeding in their course work.
- Work with the CSTEM Assistant Dean and MESA Director to plan and facilitate activities at summer camps and other outreach events.
- Assist the CSTEM Assistant Dean and MESA Director in establishing mentoring relationships for MESA students with peers and industry partners.
- Collaborate with leaders of other student support entities at EWU (e.g., student clubs, the math tutoring lab, the multicultural center, etc.) to ensure that our collective programming supports students as effectively as possible.
- Work with the CSTEM Assistant Dean and MESA Director to prepare reports to the WA MESA state office.
- Collaborate with MESA College Prep and Transfer Prep centers at other institutions.
- Assist the CSTEM Assistant Dean and MESA Director to represent EWU MESA in statewide MESA coordination meetings.

Student Programming and Support- Support the CSTEM Assistant Dean and MESA Director in recruitment and retention of EWU MESA Students.
- Oversee day-to-day operations of the MESA Student Success Center.
- Supervise MESA student employees, including tutors and student ambassadors.
- Work with the CSTEM Assistant Dean and MESA Director to create a welcoming environment in the MESA center.
- Provide mentoring, guidance, and academic coaching to support MESA student retention.
- Assist the CSTEM Assistant Dean and MESA Director in facilitating MESA student internships.
- Support events for EWU MESA.
- Support events in collaboration with other MESA Centers and the WA MESA state office.
Percent of Time: 55
Other- Support MESA-adjacent CSTEM events such as the New Majors Celebration.
- Other duties as assigned.
